This time last year I was a week in to my 4 weeks notice at my last job. It was a surreal time for me as I couldnt believe that I had the job. It was also a terrifying time as I was making a huge leap, I was heading to a job where I knew I could make a career for myself and that’s something I didnt want to mess up.
I’ve noticed that one question people ask is ‘How did you get in to Testing?’ Well, I started testing in my last job, but didnt actually realise it could be a full time job. I would be asked to UAT the system after updates had been implemented before it went out to everyone else. I did this for a while and I really enjoyed it.
One night I was doing the standard Social Media scroll and someone had shared the careers page for Ao.com. I opened it up and had a look… ‘Junior UAT Analyst’… When I read the job spec and did a bit of Googling I realised that what I was doing as extra work in my job was a full time job somewhere else. So I applied…
Skip forward 12 months and I’m coming up to 1 year in my current position. The time has absolutely flown and I’m so happy that I was given the oportunity and that I was brave enough to make the change that I knew I needed. I am also forever greatful to a fabulous lady called Emma in my last job that gave me the oportunity to Test. She always believed in me and without her I wouldnt be where I am today.
Why a Blog? Why now?
Why not! I actually bought the domain and set up the site about 7 months ago. Well, I say ‘I set it up’ very loosely, the developer Tom who I was paired with at the time did all that for me and it was actually him who gave me the idea and encouragement to share my journey. (He will love that he gets a mention in this)
I’ve put it off for a while as I really didn’t think anyone would want to hear what I had to say. Recently though I’ve been pushing myself more and more out of my comfort zone (They’re blog post’s in themselves) and I think this is the next push. I sit and I think about things I could write about but then I never write anything. So im going to do it, I have nothing to lose!
So I’ll talk about things I’ve done, things I want to do and things I might want some advice on. It may not benefit anyone in the long run but it might do and it will hopefully help me get all the ramblings out of my head and written down!
